Twilight is a romantic fantasy novel by Stephenie Meyer and has continued into being a major film series. The first book and the series of the Twilight Saga follow a love story of a girl named Bella who is a human and a vampire named Edward. It is a modern series and has a lot of new elements regarding traits of a vampire that are not usual of that of traditional vampire like Dracula. Bella is a female protagonist of the series and she is originally from Arizona but moves up to Washington to live with her father who doesn’t seem so interested in her life. Bella’s path crosses that of Edward who is a handsome vampire who falls in love with Bella and aims to protect her from harm. He is unable to read her mind and her blood seems to be the sweetest of them all. After spending some time with Edward, Bella comes to learn the reality of who Edward is and she finds that he is a Vampire. Edward became a vampire in the early 1990s purposely so he wouldn’t die of Spanish Influenza. However, even though he is over 100 years old, he appears as a young handsome man. Edward and Bella become inseparable and they find it difficult to live without each other however, because of the unique relationship between Bella and Edward, he wishes he was human so their intimacy and chemistry was less difficult to achieve without him wanting to suck her blood. Edward has many seductive qualities that Bella cannot resist as far as his scent and his speaking voice which ultimately sends Bella into numerous trances. It is rare to find love like this in traditional vampire stories however we see this frequently in modern day film and novels such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer when Buffy and Angel fall in love. Modern day vampires are now taking on the role of lovers and less of a role of blood suckers.
