Buffy the vampire slayer is a television series that started running in 1997 and is fundamentally based on the 1992 film of the same name. The series depicts the chronicles of a young female protagonist vampire slayer or ‘slayers’ as they are come to be known as throughout the series, and focusing on the dark events surrounding her life. Within the first few episodes it is revealed that the audience is being thrust into the continuity of the Buffy universe as history is explained throughout the show that she has already dealt with a few vampires before the first episode (in the first episode you learn that she transferred schools because she had burnt down her previous school’s gym due to a vampire infestation). Throughout the series both in its beginning stages and later seasons that follow there is an esteemed amount of up kept continuity. This brings a sense of story to the show aside from each episode being stand alone as it seems with some episodes. The series takes many turns throughout its run where in the beginning Buffy must overcome her own self-loathing, anxiety & fears to prove to herself that she is indeed a slayer and must do what should be done. Allowing the series to revolve around her and an entity known as the master, a creature who will rise during the events of the ‘Harvest’. Jumping ahead to a point in the series where she has come to terms with who she is and what she must do the season premiere of season 5 “Buffy vs. Dracula” she learns that there are more than just the vampires that she knew and that legends really did have to start somewhere. It is through these events that she starts to learn the origin of the ‘slayers’ and who she truly is.
