In the film, I Was a Teenage Werewolf, the main character struggles as an adolescent in high school. He gets in fights at school, has a girlfriend whose parents do not approve of him and has other problems acting out. This reveals a lot about the stresses of growing up and being an adolescent in high school. Tony plays the role of a troubled teenager who tends to act out with anger and disrespect. In the film, Tony attacks Vic because he blew a trumpet in his ear and his girlfriend Arlene tried to break it up and Tony struck her too. After this, Tony realized that he needed to take his girlfriends advice and see a doctor for his problems. During the change from child to adult is very confusing for many teens and it is perfectly normal for people to see a doctor or therapist for guidance in their emotions. Dr. Alfred Brandon injects him as an experiment. Brandon realizes that this could potentially lead to the death of Tony but continues to proceed. Soon after, we see him change into a werewolf at school and he attacks a gymnast. After, he runs out of the school into the woods and goes to hide from everyone. Tony later wakes up the next day as a human and calls Arlene without knowing what he has done. He goes to Dr. Brandon and finds out that he is the reason for his transformation. Tony then rages and begins breaking things and Brandon and his assistant kill him by shooting him. Although this is an extremely fictional story there is a lot to take away from the moral of the story. Tony is an adolescent that was influenced and taken advantage of by the doctors. This is similar to the theme in the story, “Little Red Riding Hood,” where Red is influenced by the wolf and take advantage of and is later killed. A huge part of growing up is learning who to trust and understand yourself as an individual. Both of these stories are very different yet their lessons portray very similar morals.
